LoveBlog - You, Your Mirror & Photographs Are Three Different People
I teach a 7am yoga class at Dharma Yoga Nantucket on Tuesdays and Thursday's and one of my regular students mentioned they would love it if we had mirrors so that they could see themselves and correct themselves. Another regular chimed in saying, it is nice to have mirrors but also wonderful to go inwards and self-correct. She went on to explain that with time, our bodies remember. This conversation reminded me of a conversation I had while in India last year with one of my teachers, Vigette. He said, "Don't go off of what you look like in a mirror. That's not you, that's a different person." I love this concept. The mirror is just a reflection and not a good representation of who we are. It's not even what we truly look like. I'll bring this further and say the "you" you see in photographs is not the real you. Those pictures are of a different person. A reflection, not the whole you and you don't look the way you do in pictures as you do in real life.
The next time you look in a mirror and don't like what you see, remind yourself that's a different person. The next time someone snaps a photo you don't like, remind yourself, they're a different person. To look inwards and remind yourself who you truly are, find the perfect version of yourself in the very center of the heart of hearts within. Which brings me to this week's Love Tip. You are not the reflection in the mirror. The real you can only be seen by going inward.
