40 Days of Love - Day 16 - Music
"Music, verily, is the mediator between intellectual and sensuous life... the one incorporeal entrance into the higher world of knowledge which comprehends mankind but which mankind cannot comprehend.", taken from a letter to Goethe from Beethoven.
I believe music to be a universal truth in itself. Music has the ability to say how the heart feels when the brain doesn't know the words. Maybe this is why I love it so much. I love all genres. I love to sit and listen to music. I love driving in a car and turning on the radio. The world has changed a bit. Gone are the days sitting and listening to a new record with your friends. I love live music. The connection one feels while someone is pouring out their soul. I've been in very small rooms listening to just beginning to well-known musicians just doing their thing. Happy moments to just watch someone shine. I often have music playing while I write. Bring out whatever is inside of me that only music is able to stir up.
I grew up in a musical family. I was singing before I could actually speak and I began writing music at a very young age. My little granny told me "Sing whatever is your heart, no matter how silly." I try to stand true to her advice.
Music was always something I turned to no matter what emotion was inside at the moment. Beethoven has been a part of my life since I was a child. I remember watching the record go around and around while his music spoke to my tiny self soul. I would dance in my room to his laments. I was maybe Michael Jackson's biggest three year old fan. Walking around my house with one glove. Pulling the microphone off of our brand new video camera so I could sing 'Beat it' or falling off many a table so I could perfect my moon walk while dancing on my personal stage. I've performed in musicals, bands, I was an all state soprano, college acapella group and of course, sitting around singing with my family.
Music is a universal truth because there's a note out there that speaks to everyone, in just the way they need to hear it, at that very moment.
What's playing continuously on my Pandora at the moment? James Bay. Big fan of his. I had hit a low in a relationship and I was lost looking for answers when a song of his popped into a random pandora station of mine. His song comforted me. I became a fan instantly.
If you haven't already discovered him, Here are a few songs of his for you to enjoy. I want to hear from you, what's playing on your Pandora or Spotify channels right now?
Peace, Love & Hugs,
